What is the purpose of the project?

The primary objective of the Kaleshwaram Project is to lift water from the Godavari River to irrigate about 18 lakh acres of farmland in several districts of Telangana. Additionally, the project aims to supply drinking water to villages and towns, and to provide industrial water to support economic growth and development.

The project faced controversy when its original location at Tummidihatti was shifted to Medigadda. Concerns were raised about potential flaws in design and construction, particularly regarding the permeable foundations of the Godavari barrages.
